An interactive live dance performance
Dynamic Luminescence
Time Spent: 3 months
Trailer
Dynamic Luminescence is a live dance performance project we developed collaborating with Mikael Owunna, a Pittsburgh-based Nigerian-American multimedia artist, filmmaker, and engineer. The performance was designed around the four world ages originating from traditional African culture, UGA AKA, UGA CHI, UGA ANWU, and UGA AZI, showcasing the cycle of social changes. The performance has taken place in the Yard, Martha’s Vineyard.
In this project, we used Azure Kinect for motion tracking and TouchDesigner for producing interactive visuals. For a more dynamic visual outcome, we masked out the dancers’ bodies and projected new sets of visuals to complement their dance moves and the visuals in the background. By combining tech and art and integrating them into the live performance, we wish to bring traditional African Igbo cosmology and philosophy to life.
